Mother Path / Other Path: A Call to Women Whith Out Children This book names the anxiety and ambivalence of women today who silently struggle with whether to become a mother or to remain childfree. As memoir, I share my experience as a woman caught between the cultural norm of motherhood and a personal preference for selfhood. Researching this sub-culture of childless / childfree women, I reveal our challenges to claim our identity as women who, by circumstance, chance or choice, will never be mothers in the natural way. From Surviving to Thriving: A Memoir of Rape and Recovery This no-holds-barred memoir recounts a journey from aftermath and healing from aggravated sexual assault told from dual perspectives and experiences - both of them mine. I was the rape survivor "left for dead" whose struggle back into the world took several arduous years of courage and caring, despair and depression. At the same time, I was the therapist on medical sabbatical that placed my wounded body, mind and spirit into the hands of the best surgeons, doctors, dentists, therapists and body workers to be found. Both parts of myself worked diligently and simultaneously to integrate the first hand experience of sexual trauma and to patiently whisper words of understanding and hope to bring myself back. I'm back now and ready to write about the trip. |
